Easily sort through the list of ARRIS SURFboard modems and WiFi cable modems (cable modem/router combos). The list of ARRIS cable modems is forever growing and it can be confusing to figure out which one is best for your service provider and service tier. Some of the older models are still available and mostly at a higher cost than the newer ones by price gougers utilizing supply and demand. On top of that, some models were built with the Puma 6 Chipset and still remain broken and pose security risks.
DOCSIS 3.1 modems are some of the newest modems available. They are backward compatible with DOCSIS 3.0 with 32×8 channel bonding. A DOCSIS 3.1 modem is only really necessary for customers with service speeds of 500 Mbps or higher, particularly Gigabit services. Some ARRIS modems, like the ARRIS SB8200, are compatible with the ARRIS SURFboard Manager App. Don’t focus on this as a big selling factor. The App is one of the worst I have seen. It’s better to control your home network via the regular control panel.
