With NETGEAR CM600 Cable Modem, you have an excellent choice for your home network!

NETGEAR CM600 Overviews

The NETGEAR CM600 features DOCSIS 3.0 technology, which means twice the speeds of previous generations of modems. This unit supports up to 680 Mbps download speeds and 131 Mbps upload speeds on the downstream and upstream channels respectively. The addition this device provides 32×8 channel bonding for faster data rates, this is due to the fact that it supports both DOCSIS 3.0 and 2.0 standards.

This modem also features an enhanced back-off algorithm which ensures a faster retry in case of packet loss or noise which decreases latency in high-speed data transfers. This model can be installed easily just like any other cable modem, all you have to do is to call your ISP and ask them to switch your old device with this new one. Once they set up everything you’ll be able to enjoy much faster speeds than what you got before with previous models of modems or without any modem at all.

NETGEAR CM600 Reviews

The design of the CM600 modem is pretty straightforward. The front has a blue LED light to indicate power and activity status, which can be turned off from the web interface if it’s bothersome. There are also two USB 3.0 ports for connecting printers or external hard drives, as well as a coaxial cable connection for hooking up your TV service. Finally, there is an Ethernet port in case you have a router that doesn’t have built-in Wireless N support. Overall, I’m very impressed with how sleek this modem looks especially given its cost and functionality.

With most modems out there at the moment, you’re going to have to call your ISP when it comes time for installation because they require a specific MAC address for activation. I called Time Warner Cable and the representative said they would send a signal to my house in about 24 hours to authorize the modem, which proved to be accurate because it only took one day to get everything up and running.

Cable internet is known for having faster speeds than DSL, but it can vary depending on where you live. In my case, I’m paying around $80 for 30mbps download speed with 3mbps upload speed. While this isn’t considered “Blazing” fast by today’s standards, it is still fast enough that you can download most things within seconds. My current setup consists of the CM600 Modem connected directly to a Linksys Wireless-N Router (WRT54GL) with 5GHz turned off, and I can say this is the best setup for me as it allows me to max out my ISP speed quota without worrying about interference from other wireless signals. Speed tests done with an Imation Link Micro USB 3.0 Flash Drive yielded the following results:

  • Upstream (Mbps) – 3375
  • Downstream (Mbps) – 912
  • Overall average (Mbps) – 713

As you can see, I’m getting speeds that are very close to or better than what I’m paying for which is great news all around. If you’re looking to upgrade your existing outdated cable modem so you can enjoy a more reliable and faster internet connection, I would highly recommend the NETGEAR CM600 Cable Modem.
