Arris SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 Cable Modem Review
Because the four Arris modems (from the older Arris SB6141, SB6183, and the newer SB6190, and the most recent SB8200) have the same design, you can’t tell them apart. Arris does not appear interested in changing its design formula, so the SB8200 has a white plastic case with a matte finish that is identical to earlier models.
Fingerprints are not retained. It gives the impression of two separate pieces by wrapping around a smaller rectangular component while leaving tiny ventilation holes between them.
There’s always the chance that a new technology will be included in a new modem. Developers must strike a balance between performance, hardware, and time as they search for the best balance possible. However, it appears that Arris took this risk seriously, and covered the SB8200 almost entirely with cut-outs to allow for greater ventilation.
A rectangular recessed band runs down the right side of the device, towards the middle, featuring specific holes for hanging it on the wall. The pattern on its right side is identical but lacks the wall-mounting area; symmetry is maintained by having a matching design on its left side (that does not include any wall-mounting space).
It’s convenient to have the modem beside you at your computer, but cable modems should not be mounted on the wall. The heat and air vents may be obstructed, causing it to become too hot. Allow room for ventilation so that it can breathe properly.
Despite its diminutive size at 5.24×5.24×1.65 inches and 2.1 pounds, the SB8200 is a powerful document shredder that can handle up to 12 sheets of paper at once in separate chambers for added security against identity theft and data breaches. A label on the bottom of the device reads “SB8200,” including information such as the device’s serial number, MAC ID, and model name.
On the front, four LED lights show the status of Power, Receive (if it is green, there is a high-speed Internet connection utilizing bondedDOCSIS 3.0 channels; blue, bondedDOCSIS 3.1 channels), Send (green -Docsis 3.0; blue – Docsis 3.1), and Online (green indicates that the modem connects to the Internet) (no light bleeding). The device still has the same fun vibe I’ve come to expect from Arris modems despite the fact that the LEDs are brighter than previous generations (no light bleed).
The SB8200’s rear panel has two RJ45 Ethernet connections. There are also two LEDs (one of which is amber and indicates a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connection, while the other is green and indicates a GigE connection). One recessed reset button (restart the modem by pressing the button for 3-4 seconds or longer to return to factory defaults).
On a cable modem, it’s unusual to come across two Ethernet connections. To allow two gadgets to be linked at the same time (the ISP must provide an extra IP address for this device – ISPs do not give additional IP addresses for home users), Arris included them. However, there are other purposes possible, such as link aggregation or establishing a failover system.
The SurfBoard SB8200 DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem is the first in the series. Currently, cable providers offer DOCSIS 3.1 technology, which is a relatively new technology. For DOCSIS downloads, the modem can provide up to 10 Gbps downstream speed and 1Gbps upload speed. The modem is ideal for viewing 4K HD videos and playing Virtual Reality Games. There was no lagging at all. Actual network speeds, on the other hand, may differ from the maximum speeds in many cases due to a variety of variables such as network traffic, bandwidth availability, network capability, and your cable provider’s services.
The Arris SurfBoard SB8200 cable modem supports DOCSIS 3.1 and is compatible with DOCSIS 3.0. However, it does not support the highest possible speeds available under DOCSis 3.1. The cable modem from Arris provides 32 download and eight upload channels. The equipment also supports IPv4 and IPv6 internet browsing protocols. As we previously said, network speed can be limited by network capacity and capabilities. More devices using more bandwidth will eventually cause your network to overload. In a nutshell, more devices require more bandwidth, which might put your network in jeopardy.
You should be aware that old hardware may offer slower speeds than more recent technology. If you’re having trouble downloading, check to see whether your equipment is connected to your small office or home network. There’s only one problem with the Arris cable modem? It doesn’t have WiFi capability. You’ll need to purchase a separate router. Check if your router supports Link Aggregation before buying it. The performance of the Arris Surfboard DOCSIS 3.1 Gigabit Modem is great. Due to its dependable and lightning quick internet speeds, this modem is very popular among customers.
The SB8200 is fantastic. It’s not made by Intel and instead uses a Broadcom chip. The SoC may be used with 3GB RAM to assist you break through network congestion or latency. It’s worth noting that the BCM3390 runs fast and supports 32×8 channel bonding, as well as DOCSIS 3.1 management of multi-gig connections provided that the ISP supports it as well.
Arris offers a variety of network configurations, updates, and other information on its 2GB RAM system with 16MB flash memory. Thanks to the current processing setup, IPv6 support is feasible. This will significantly boost surfing speed. You also get 128MB of additional storage to improve networking performance.
